【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코청암재단(이사장 장인화)은 국내 신진 과학자 30명을 제17기 ‘포스코사이언스펠로(Posco Science Fellow)’로 선발하고, 10월 23일 서울 포스코센터에서 증서 전달식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

올해 선발은 전국 75개 대학에서 총 440명의 신진 교수가 지원해 14대 1이 넘는 높은 경쟁률을 기록했다. 최종 선발된 펠로에게는 2년간 총 1억 원의 연구비가 지원된다.

‘포스코사이언스펠로십’은 대한민국의 미래 성장동력을 이끌어 갈 신진 과학자를 발굴·육성하기 위한 포스코청암재단의 대표적인 과학 지원 사업이다. 2009년 사업 시작 이후 현재까지 기초과학 및 응용과학 분야에서 총 543명의 유망 과학자를 선발했으며, 이들에게 누적 364억 원의 연구비를 지원해 안정적 연구 환경 조성에 기여해왔다.

이날 행사에는 KAIST 이상엽 특훈교수와 서울대학교 황철성 석좌교수가 참석해 특별 강연을 진행했다. 또한 2025년 청암상 수상자이자 선배 펠로인 박문정 포스텍 교수가 영상 메시지를 통해 “포스코사이언스펠로로서 자부심을 가지고 초심을 잃지 말고 연구에 매진해 새로운 학문 분야를 개척하길 바란다”고 후배들을 격려했다.

제17기 펠로로 선발된 포항공과대학교 허윤하 교수는 “이번 선정은 연구자로서 더 큰 책임감을 느끼게 한다”며 “지속가능한 미래를 위한 의미 있는 연구를 이어가겠다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

포스코청암재단 관계자는 “앞으로도 젊고 유능한 과학자들이 국내에서 세계적 수준의 연구를 이어갈 수 있도록 지속적으로 지원할 것”이라고 말했다.

The POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairman In-hwa Jang) announced the selection of 30 young Korean scientists as the 17th POSCO Science Fellows and held a certificate presentation ceremony at the POSCO Center in Seoul on October 23rd.

The POSCO Science Fellowship is the POSCO TJ Park Foundation's flagship science support program, designed to discover and nurture young scientists who will drive Korea's future growth. Since its launch in 2009, the program has selected a total of 543 promising scientists in basic and applied science fields, providing a cumulative 36.4 billion won in research funding, contributing to the creation of a stable research environment.

The event featured special lectures by Distinguished Professor Sang-Yeop Lee of KAIST and Professor Cheol-Seong Hwang of Seoul National University. Professor Moon-Jung Park of POSTECH, a 2025 TJ Park Prize recipient and fellow, encouraged the fellows in a video message, saying, "As POSCO Science Fellows, I hope you will take pride in your work, never lose your original intentions, and dedicate yourself to research and pioneer new academic fields."

Professor Yoon-Ha Heo of Pohang University of Science and Technology, who was selected as the 17th fellow, said, "This selection gives me a greater sense of responsibility as a researcher. I will continue to conduct meaningful research for a sustainable future."
