【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=계명대학교는 1일 오후 5시 성서캠퍼스 정문 진입 광장에서 2025년 성탄 점등식을 열고 연말을 맞아 구성원들과 성탄의 의미를 나누는 시간을 마련했다. 올해 행사에는 다양한 국적의 유학생이 참여해 다문화 교류와 화합의 메시지를 강조했다.

점등식은 8개 언어로 부른 캐럴 공연으로 시작됐다. 한국을 비롯해 우크라이나·프랑스·독일·스페인·폴란드·베트남·영어권 학생 등 총 90명의 유학생이 무대에 올랐으며, 교직원과 재학생 약 200명이 함께 호응하며 분위기를 돋웠다.

이날 행사에는 신일희 총장과 대학 주요 보직자, 문준호 직원노조위원장, 박한준 총학생회장(자동차공학과 4학년) 등이 참석했다. 외국인학생 대표로는 튀르키예 출신 야킨 아이셰(24) 씨와 프랑스 출신 주케로 마티스 루이 장(20) 씨가 함께했다.

야킨 아이셰 씨는 “한국에서 보내는 첫 성탄절을 다양한 나라 친구들과 함께하게 돼 뜻깊다”며 “계명대와 대구에서의 유학생활이 더욱 따뜻하게 느껴지는 순간이었다”고 소감을 전했다.

신일희 총장은 “국제화된 대학은 국적을 뛰어넘어 서로가 가족처럼 어울릴 때 비로소 완성된다”며 “밝아진 캠퍼스 불빛처럼 학생, 교직원, 지역사회 모두가 서로를 비추는 ‘빛의 공동체’가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

한편 계명대는 현재 전 세계 68개국 511개 대학 및 기관과 국제 교육 협력을 이어가고 있으며, 대구·경북 지역 대학 중 가장 많은 4,023명의 유학생이 재학 중이다. 학교 측은 이번 점등식이 다양한 배경의 구성원이 함께하는 캠퍼스 문화와 글로벌 교육 환경을 상징하는 행사였다고 설명했다.

Keimyung University held its 2025 Christmas Lighting Ceremony at the main entrance plaza of the Seongseo Campus at 5:00 PM on December 1st, offering a time to share the meaning of Christmas with its members as the year draws to a close. This year's event featured international students from various countries, emphasizing the message of multicultural exchange and harmony.

The lighting ceremony began with a carol performance in eight languages. A total of 90 international students, including students from Korea, Ukraine, France, Germany, Spain, Poland, Vietnam, and English-speaking countries, took to the stage. Approximately 200 faculty, staff, and students joined in, enlivening the atmosphere.

The event was attended by President Shin Il-hee, key university officials, staff union president Moon Joon-ho, and student body president Park Han-joon (a senior in the Department of Automotive Engineering). Representatives of the international students included Yakin Ayseh (24) from Turkey and Jukeiro Mathis Louis Jean (20) from France.

Yakin Ayseh said, "It was meaningful to spend my first Christmas in Korea with friends from various countries. It was a moment that made my experience as an international student at Keimyung University and in Daegu feel even warmer."

President Shin Il-hee said, "An international university is only complete when everyone transcends nationality and comes together like family. I hope that, like the brightly lit campus lights, students, faculty, and the local community will become a 'community of light,' illuminating one another."

Meanwhile, Keimyung University currently maintains international educational partnerships with 511 universities and institutions in 68 countries around the world, and has the largest number of international students, 4,023, among universities in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. The university explained that the lighting ceremony symbolized the campus culture and global educational environment where members from diverse backgrounds come together.
