【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=경북교육청이 2026학년도 다문화교육 확산과 이주배경학생의 안정적인 학교생활 정착을 지원하기 위해 ‘다문화교육 선도학교’와 ‘한국어학급’ 운영 학교를 공개 모집한다. 

경북교육청은 16일 이같은 내용과 함께, 이번 사업에 총 14억 300만 원의 예산을 투입한다고 밝혔다.

경북교육청에 따르면 2025년 4월 1일 기준 교육부 집계에서 경북 지역 이주배경학생은 1만 3,196명으로 집계됐으며, 이는 도내 전체 학생의 5.5%에 해당한다. 도내 이주배경학생 수는 꾸준히 증가하는 추세를 보이고 있다. 

이에 따라 언어, 학습, 정서 등 다양한 지원과 함께 학교 구성원 전체의 다문화 감수성 강화가 필요하다는 판단에서 사업이 추진된다.

이번 공모를 통해 경북교육청은 유치원과 초·중·고, 각종 학교를 대상으로 다문화교육 선도학교 약 100곳을 선정할 계획이다. 선정된 학교들은 자체 여건에 맞춰 초기 적응 지원, 한국어 교육, 맞춤형 학습지원, 다문화 이해 교육 등 다양한 분야를 자유롭게 선택해 운영하게 된다. 학교별로 여러 프로그램을 중복으로 운영하는 것도 가능하다.

한국어학급은 한국어 의사소통에 어려움을 겪는 이주배경학생이 많은 학교를 대상으로 약 60학급을 선정해 운영할 방침이다. 집중적인 한국어 교육과 한국문화 적응을 돕는 프로그램을 제공해 학습 결손과 또래 관계 형성에 어려움이 생기지 않도록 중점을 둘 예정이다.

총 사업 예산 약 14억 300만 원은 학교별 프로그램 운영비, 교원 인건비, 교재비 등으로 지원된다. 경북교육청은 각 학교가 지역 특성과 학생 구성에 맞는 맞춤형 프로그램을 기획하도록 유도할 방침이다.

임종식 경북교육감은 “다문화교육 선도학교와 한국어학급 운영을 통해 이주배경학생들이 학교생활에 원만하게 적응하고, 학업 성취도 높일 수 있도록 지원할 것”이라며 “학생들의 다양한 배경과 역량이 곧 우리 사회와 지역사회의 미래를 이끄는 소중한 자산으로 성장할 수 있도록 지속적으로 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.

The selected schools will be free to choose from a variety of programs, including initial adjustment support, Korean language education, customized learning support, and multicultural understanding education, tailored to their individual circumstances. Schools may also operate multiple programs concurrently.

Approximately 60 Korean language classes will be offered at schools with a high proportion of immigrant students who struggle with Korean communication. The program will focus on providing intensive Korean language instruction and programs that help students adapt to Korean culture, minimizing learning gaps and interpersonal difficulties.

The total project budget of approximately KRW 1.43 billion will be allocated to each school for program operating costs, teacher salaries, and textbooks. The Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to encourage each school to develop customized programs tailored to its regional characteristics and student population.

Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education Lim Jong-sik said, “We will support students from immigrant backgrounds to smoothly adapt to school life and improve their academic achievements through the operation of multicultural education leading schools and Korean language classes,” and “We will continue to work to ensure that students’ diverse backgrounds and capabilities can grow into valuable assets that will lead the future of our society and local communities.”
