【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=선린대학교(총장 곽진환) 응급구조과 졸업생 이광호 씨가 지난해 겨울 포항지역 소방서에서 진행된 구급 현장실습 중 심정지 환자를 소생시킨 공로를 인정받아 ‘하트세이버(Heart Saver)’를 수상했다.

하트세이버는 심정지 환자 발생 현장에서 신속하고 정확한 심폐소생술을 통해 생명을 구한 구급대원이나 구조요원에게 수여되는 명예로운 상이다. 이광호 씨는 실습 과정에서 심정지 환자 발생 상황을 맞아 현장 구급대원들과 함께 즉각적인 심폐소생술과 응급처치를 시행해 환자의 자발순환 회복에 기여한 점을 높이 평가받았다.

당시 이 씨는 실습생 신분이었음에도 불구하고 침착하게 현장 지시에 따라 심폐소생술 보조와 응급처치에 적극 참여했으며, 학교에서 습득한 이론과 실습 교육 내용을 현장에 정확히 적용해 모범적인 대응을 보인 것으로 전해졌다.

이광호 씨는 “현장에서 배운 대로 행동했을 뿐인데, 그 경험이 한 생명을 살리는 데 도움이 되었다는 사실이 아직도 실감 나지 않는다”며 “선린대학교 응급구조과에서 받은 체계적인 실습 교육 덕분에 두려움보다 책임감을 가지고 현장에 임할 수 있었다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

현진숙 선린대학교 응급구조과 학과장(전국응급구조학과교수협의회장)은 “이번 하트세이버 수상은 학생 개인의 성실함과 더불어 현장 중심 교육을 지속해 온 학과 교육 시스템의 성과”라며 “앞으로도 학생들이 실습 현장에서 즉시 역할을 수행할 수 있는 실무형 응급구조사로 성장할 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.

한편 선린대학교 응급구조과는 1995년 전국 최초로 개설된 응급구조 교육기관으로, 체계적인 교육과정과 현장 밀착형 실습을 통해 소방·병원·해경 등과 연계한 전문 인재를 양성하며 지역사회와 국민의 생명을 지키는 응급의료 인력 양성에 앞장서고 있다.
