국민의힘 중앙당 공천관리위원회(위원장 정진석)는 지난 4일 오전 9시부터 6일 오후 5시까지 제8회 전국동시지방선거 광역단체장 후보자 공천 신청 접수를 진행했다.
신청 접수 결과, 전국 17개 시･도 모두 광역단체장 후보자 접수를 완료했으며, 총 62명(비공개 1명 포함)이 신청해 3.64대 1의 경쟁률을 기록했다.
특히 대구지역에는 8명이 몰려 가장 높은 경쟁률을 보이고 있으며, 이어 △울산과 제주(각 7명) △경기(6명)순으로 경쟁률이 높은 것으로 나타났다.
또한 광주(2명)와 전북(2명), 전남(2명) 등 호남의 전 지역도 후보자 공천 신청 접수를 완료해 눈길을 끌었다.
이에 따라 공관위는 7일부터 광역단체장 공천 신청자에 대한 면밀한 서류 심사를 거쳐, 8일 오전부터 후보자들에 대한 면접을 실시한다는 계획을 전했다.
정진석 공관위원장은 “국민의 눈높이에 맞는 유능하고 경쟁력 있는 후보자를 공천하기 위해 후보자의 자질과 능력을 엄중하게 심사하겠다”는 의지를 강조하며, 원칙과 기준에 따른 심사를 약속했다.
