여기에 민주당이 자멸하다시피 한 부진한 후보 공천에 따라 경쟁 구도가 사라진데다 유권자가 관심을 가질 만한 출마자를 찾기도 쉽지 않다는 점도 저조한 투표율의 원인으로 지목된다. 

특히, 수 십 개의 선거구에서 무투표 당선이 쏟아지면서 투표할 명분이 사라진 점은 우리 정치사에 치욕으로 남는 것은 물론, 6월1일 지방선거 관심도를 크게 낮춰 지방선거 흥행에 먹구름을 드리우고 있다는 지적이다. 

그러다보니 이번 선거는 지역민을 감동시키는 1)정책도 없고, 유세장엔 2)사람들도 없을 뿐 아니라, 주민들의 선거에 대한 3)관심도 없는 3無 선거로 불릴 판이다.

대구시의 고민이 깊어졌다. 권영진 대구시장은 사전 투표 첫날인 27일 아침 일찍 투표를 마치면서 “미래를 위한 투자”라며“반드시 투표해 달라”고 독려하고 나섰다.

국민의힘 이철우 경북도지사는 27일 경북 안동시 강남동 행정복지센터에서 배우자와 함께 사전투표를 하면서“대한민국의 새로운 미래를 열어가도록 투표에 꼭 참여해 달라”고 호소했다. 

더불어민주당 임미애 도지사 후보는 6월 1일 투표할 것으로 알려졌다. 그렇지만 그는 27일 “투표는 세상을 바꾸는 힘이고, 우리의 생활을 윤택하게 하는 길”이라며 투표 참여를 독려했다.
