보수성이 워낙 강한 이 지역에서 민주당이 뿌리내리는 것은 진보정당인들에게는 오랜 숙원이자 숙제다.

경기도당, 전남도당, 경북도당과 제주도당 4개의 시도당은 14일 인프라 지원 및 인적교류와  정책 공조 를 중심으로 상생 협력하면 전국 정당화를 공동 실현해 나가기로 했다.

자연스럽게 되는 일이 불가능하다면 이젠 물리적으로라도 국회의원을 배출해야 하는 상황. 정치적 여건을 극복하자는 목소리가 수도 없이 나왔지만 전국정당화를 부르짖은 민주당에서조차 이 문제는 풀리지 않았던 것이 사실이다. 

그런 점에서 14일 더불어민주당 경북도당, 경기도당, 전남도당, 제주특별자치도당 4개 시도당의 상생 협약식은 그 의미하는 바가 크다. 이들 4개 시도당은 이날 상생 협약식을 갖고 상호 교류를 통해 민주당의 전국정당화를 모색하기로 했다. 이들의 전국정당화, 특히 경상북도 정치권에 던지는 메시지는 분명하다. 오는 2024년 총선에서 국회의원을 배출하는 것이다. 

경북도당 임미애 위원장은 이에 대하여 큰 사명감을 지니고 있는 사람 중 하나다. 그는 이날도 “우리의 목표는 분명하다”며 “오는 2024년 총선에서 경북은 2~3명의 국회의원을 배출하는 것”이라고 강조했다.

그러면서 그는 “재원 및 인프라 지원, 기회와 인력의 공유 등이 지속적으로 이루어진다면 큰 힘이 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다. 그의 발언은 경북지역의 정치적 토양과 시스템과 투자, 지원이 부족했던 중앙당에 대해 섭섭함을 토로함과 동시에 당의 지원으로 상생, 연대의 정신으로 경북이 도약하는 계기로 삼겠다는 것으로 풀이된다. 

임 위원장 외에 박찬대 최고위원은 “이재명 대표와 새로운 지도부는 이기는 정당, 유능한 정당을 지향하고 이를위해 민주당의 전국정당화가 꼭 필요하다”고 말하고 “재원, 기회, 인력을 서로 나누고 협력한다면 유능한 대안정당, 전국정당으로 발전할 수 있을 것”이라고 강조했다.

신정훈 전남도당위원장은 “포항 태풍피해로 힘들고 어려운 지역에서 고군분투하는 당원 여러분께 감사드린다”며 “허대만 동지를 생각하면 오늘 협약식의 의미가 매우 뜻깊다”고 말하고 임종성 경기도당위원장은 “1년에 4회정도 4개 시도당을 돌아가며 교류를 지속해 나가자”고 제안하고 “경북이 외롭지 않게 늘 함께하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 이날 협약에는 박찬대 최고위원을 비롯해 임종성 경기도당위원장, 신정훈 전남도당위원장, 임미애 경북도당위원장, 위성곤 제주특별자치도당위원장이 참석했다. 임미애 위원장은 “오늘 협약식은 시도당간 상생 협력 정신으로 전국정당의 기틀을 공고히 하고, 인프라 지원과 인적 교류 및 정책협력을 통해 상호 발전의 기회를 만들기 위함”이라고 설명했다.
