새로운 공공병원 설립 대구시민행동 등은 28일 오전 10시 대구 콘텐츠비즈니스센터 앞에서 기자회견을 열고 "팬데믹이 끝나지 않은 이 상황 속에서도 공공병원에 대한 무조건적인 적개심으로 일관하며 의료를 돈벌이로만 생각하는 홍준표 당선인의 저열한 시정운영 철학에 분노한다"며 "제2 대구의료원 설립 무효화 추진을 규탄한다"고 비판했다.

이어 "대구는 코로나19 비극을 가장 먼저 겪은 도시이고 원인은 공공병원 부족 때문이었다. 10%밖에 안 되는 공공병상이 확진자의 80%를 감당했고 수많은 확진자들이 입원치료를 받지 못했다"며 "이는 시민들에게 공공의료의 중요성을 알려준 계기였다"고 주장했다.

한편 인수위는 이날 오전 열린 기자회견에서 "제2대구의료원을 어떻게 할 것인가에 대해 현재 인수위에서 수십차례 논의를 하고 검토했다"며 "대구 의료 여건을 보는 시각들이 다양하다고 생각한다. 현재 있는 대구의료원이 정상적으로 공공병원으로 제 역할을 하고 있는가, 어떻게 정상화 시킬 것인가 논의한 후에 제2대구의료원을 재논의 하는 게 맞지않나 판단한다"고 말했다.
