지난 6일 대구시의회 교육위원회는 2층 간담회장에서 사립유치원 무상교육 추진과 유치원 교육여건 개선방안에 대해 논의하는 간담회를 개최했다.

교육위원회 이동욱 위원장 주재로 진행된 이날 간담회에는 대구시의회 교육위원회 위원, 사립유치원연합회 임원, 대구시교육청 관계자 등이 참석해 의견 교환 및 토론을 진행했다.

간담회에서는 현재 사립유치원이 유아교육의 많은 부분을 담당하고 있지만 현실과는 맞지 않는 제도로 인해 운영에 많은 어려움을 겪고 있고 특히 사립유치원 특수교육 운영, 시설 노후화 및 무상교육 추진 등과 관련해 겪고 있는 여러 가지 문제들이 제기되었다.

이에 대구시의회는 사립유치원 특수교육 대상자에 대한 대책으로 공립유치원 내 특수학급 신·증설 및 사립유치원 특수교육 인력 예산을 지원하고, 교육환경 개선 대책으로는 유치원 실내·외 교육환경개선 및 놀이공간 조성 등의 예산을 지원하기로 했다. 

아울러, 사립유치원 무상교육 추진과 관련해 교육감의 공약사항인 만큼 여러 쟁점 사항을 면밀히 검토하여 차질 없이 준비하도록 협의했다.

대구시의회 이동욱 교육위원장은 “사립유치원 교육현장에서 많은 어려움 속에서도 유아교육을 위해 노력하시는 모든 분들의 노고에 감사드리며, 이번 간담회에서 논의된 사항은 대구시교육청과의 적극적인 협의를 통해 후속 조치가 이루어질 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
