11일 오전 10시 30분, 박 전 대통령이 대구 동구 팔공산 동화사를 찾아 의현 큰스님을 만났다.

동화사에 도착한 박 전 대통령은 의현 스님과 인사를 나눈 후 통일대불로 향해 기도를 드렸다.

박 전 대통령이 절에 모습을 나타내자 절을 방문한 방문객들은 모두 한목소리로 환영의 인사를 전했고 이에 박 전 대통령은 별다른 발언 없이 미소만을 띄웠다.

기도를 마친 후 의현 스님은 “박근혜 전 대통령께서 결의의 성지인 팔공 성지에 왕림해 주신 것을 환영한다.”면서 “문재인 정부가 박근혜 전 대통령을 비선실세가 있다고 했지만 문재인 정부는 수십 명 수십만 명 수백만 명이 비선실세.”라고 말했다.

그러면서 “박 전 대통령은 비선실세를 둔 게 없다.”며 “어떻게든 한미일 동맹으로 국가를 튼튼히 지켜 태평성대 복락을 누리는 대한민국이 되길 바란다.”고 덧붙여 말했다.

의현 스님의 덕담 이후 박 전 대통령은 사찰음식 체험관으로 이동해 능종 주지 스님과 차담을 나누었으며 이후 동화사 관계자들과 오찬을 함께 한 것으로 알려진다.

총선을 1년 앞두고 박 전 대통령의 갑작스런 외출으로 정치권이 술렁였다. 그러나 박 전 대통령의 최측근으로 알려진 유영하 변호사는 “(박근혜 전 대통령이) 1년 전보다 건강이 많이 좋아지신데다 오늘 선인 말씀도 있고 해서 오시게 되었다.”며 “다른 정치적 의미는 없으니 오랜만에 나들이인 만큼 편안히 오가실 수 있도록 해달라.”며 당부했다.

그러면서도 “(박 전 대통령이) 전통시장이나 이런 데 나가시면 제가 공지를 다 해 드리겠다.”며 향후 공개 일정이 늘어날 수 있음을 예고했다.
