【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=대구광역시 상수도사업본부가 수돗물의 안전성을 한층 높이기 위해 올해부터 수질검사 항목을 대폭 확대하고, 정수와 원수에 대한 관리 체계를 강화한다.
본부는 인체에 유해할 우려가 있거나 사회적 이슈로 관리가 필요한 미규제 오염물질을 매년 선정해 검사 범위를 확대해 왔으며, 올해는 환경 중 잔류성이 큰 과불화화합물(PFAS) 2종인 과불화펜탄술폰산과 헥사플루오로프로필렌 옥사이드 다이머산을 원수·정수 검사 항목에 새로 포함했다.
정수장에서 생산된 수돗물은 법정 수질기준 60개 항목과 법정 감시항목 30개, 대구시 자체 감시항목 242개를 포함해 총 332개 항목에 대해 검사를 받는다. 이는 세계보건기구(WHO) 권장 수준인 166개의 두 배에 달하며, 국내 먹는물 수질기준 60개 항목의 5배 이상으로 6대 광역시 가운데 가장 많은 수준이다.
정수장으로 유입되는 원수 역시 법정항목 38개, 법정감시항목 4개, 자체감시항목 280개 등 총 322개 항목에 대해 정밀 검사가 이뤄진다.
이와 함께 낙동강 수계에 존재할 가능성이 있는 미규제 오염물질을 대상으로 추적 분석과 신종물질 특별관리 수질검사도 실시한다. 낙동강 7개 지점에서 191개 항목을 점검하고, 상류 수질검사와 미량유해물질 집중검사 등 선제적인 원수 감시체계도 가동한다.

The headquarters has been expanding the scope of inspections annually by selecting unregulated pollutants that pose a risk of harm to humans or require management due to social issues. This year, two highly persistent perfluorinated compounds (PFAS)—perfluoropentanesulfonic acid and hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid—have been newly added to the raw water and purified water inspections.
Tap water produced at water purification plants is inspected for a total of 332 items, including 60 items required by legal water quality standards, 30 items subject to legal monitoring, and 242 items monitored by the Daegu City government. This is double the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended level of 166, and more than five times the 60 items in Korea's drinking water quality standards, the highest among the six metropolitan cities.
Raw water entering the water purification plant will also be thoroughly tested for a total of 322 items, including 38 statutory items, four statutory monitoring items, and 280 self-monitoring items.
Furthermore, trace analysis and special water quality testing for new substances will be conducted to identify unregulated pollutants potentially present in the Nakdong River basin. Seven locations along the Nakdong River will inspect 191 items, and a proactive raw water monitoring system will also be implemented, including upstream water quality testing and intensive testing for trace toxic substances.
Baek Dong-hyeon, head of the Daegu Metropolitan City Waterworks Division, said, “We will maintain a strict management system throughout the entire process, from raw water to household taps, by expanding the items for water quality testing and conducting preemptive monitoring,” adding, “We will do our best to supply high-quality tap water that citizens can drink with confidence.”
