지난 2일 김동철 한국전력 사장은 신년사에서 “이탈리아의 에넬(전력회사)처럼 공기업의 틀을 벗어나겠다”고 밝혀 논란이 되었다.

김 사장이 언급한 에넬은 강도 높은 민영화를 추진했던 이탈리아의 전력회사로 2022년 7조 7,818억 원에 달하는 막대한 순이익을 거둔 것으로 알려진다.

이에 황순규 위원장은 “이로 인해 이탈리아 국민에게는 요금폭탄이 돌아갔다”며 “한전 민영화는 기업에게 떼돈을, 서민들에게 막대한 요금폭탄을 돌리겠다는 선언과 다름없다”고 설명했다. 

그러면서 “민영화했던 모든 나라들이 전기요금 폭등과 전력공급 중단의 참혹한 결과에 허덕여야 했다”고 주장했다.

황 위원장은 “공공성 파괴, 전력 체계 왜곡, 요금폭등 민생 파탄을 초래하면서, 기업만큼은 반드시 떼돈 벌게 하겠다는 망국적 발상은 즉각 중단되어야 한다”고 강한 발언을 쏟아냈다.

아울러 그는 “어제만 해도 값비싼 난방비를 아끼려 전기장판과 온수매트를 겹쳐 쓰다 발생한 화재에 한 부부가 목숨을 잃었다는 안타까운 소식이 전해졌다”며 “삶에 필수적인 에너지만큼은 누구나 기본적으로 누릴 수 있도록 전국민 필수에너지 이용권 도입이 시급하다”고 덧붙였다.
