대구 북구청(청장 배광식)은 국가유산청(청장 최응천)의 허가를 받아 (재)대동문화유산연구원(원장 조영현)과 함께 진행 중인 구암동 고분군 제100~102호분 발굴조사의 주요 성과를 오는 24일 오전 10시 현장에서 공개한다.

사적 제262호로 지정된 구암동 고분군 중 이번에 조사된 100~102호분은 나란히 붙어 있는 대형 고분으로, 구암동 일대에서 규모가 가장 크다.

과거 여러 차례 도굴 피해를 입은 이 고분들은 2019년 북구청이 수립한 종합정비계획에 따라 2023년부터 본격적인 정밀 발굴에 착수했다.

이번에 발굴된 고분은 칠곡분지를 한눈에 내려다볼 수 있는 첫 번째 능선 중간에 위치해 있으며, 아래에서 올려다봐도 봉분이 또렷이 보일 정도로 입지가 뛰어나다.

특히 조사 결과, 102호분을 시작으로 100호분, 101-A호분, 101-B호분 순으로 축조됐으며, 100호와 102호분은 각각 지름 25m, 높이 6~7m에 달한다.

눈에 띄는 점은 100호분에서 구암동 고분군 최초로 ‘111’자 평면 배치(주곽 1기, 부곽 2기)의 형태가 확인된 것이다. 

또한 석재 사용량이 다른 고분에 비해 압도적으로 많았으며, 내부에서는 금동제 귀걸이, 유개고배 등 토기류, 마구류 등 다채로운 유물이 출토됐다. 이를 통해 고분의 조성 시기는 5세기 말에서 6세기 초로 추정된다.

비록 도굴로 인해 피장자의 권위를 직접 드러내는 핵심 유물은 발견되지 않았지만, 대형 봉분과 유례없는 배치 형식, 대규모 석재 사용 등을 종합하면 이 고분의 주인공은 구암동 고분군을 중심으로 한 '팔거리현' 지역의 최고 수장이었을 가능성이 높다.

24일 열리는 현장설명회에서는 발굴 유물과 고분 내부를 직접 관람할 수 있으며, 발굴단이 현장에서 직접 설명에 나선다. 일반 시민 누구나 참여 가능하며, 자료집도 현장에서 배포된다.

배광식 북구청장은 “이번 발굴은 구암동 고분군의 역사적 위상을 다시금 확인시켜준 중요한 성과”라며 “앞으로 정비와 복원을 마무리하고, 이를 활용한 다양한 국가유산 콘텐츠 개발로 지역 주민 모두가 향유할 수 있는 문화자산으로 거듭나도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.

The largest head tomb in the region has been revealed in the Guam-dong Ancient Tombs in Daegu.

The Buk-gu Office of Daegu (Director Bae Gwang-sik) will unveil the main results of the excavation of the Guam-dong Ancient Tombs No. 100-102, which is being conducted in collaboration with the Daedong Cultural Heritage Research Institute (Director Cho Young-hyun) with the permission of the National Heritage Administration (Director Choi Eung-cheon), at the site on the 24th at 10:00 AM.

Among the Guam-dong Ancient Tombs designated as Historic Site No. 262, the tombs No. 100-102 that were recently investigated are large tombs located side by side and are the largest in the Guam-dong area.

These tombs, which have suffered damage from grave robbery several times in the past, will begin a full-scale detailed excavation in 2023 in accordance with the comprehensive maintenance plan established by the Buk-gu Office in 2019.

The newly excavated tomb is located in the middle of the first ridge overlooking the Chilgok Basin at a glance, and its location is excellent enough that the mound is clearly visible even when looking up from below.

In particular, the investigation results show that it was built starting with Tomb No. 102, followed by Tomb No. 100, Tomb No. 101-A, and Tomb No. 101-B, and Tomb No. 100 and Tomb No. 102 are each 25m in diameter and 6~7m in height.

What is notable is that Tomb No. 100 was the first to confirm the ‘111’-shaped floor plan (1 main chamber, 2 auxiliary chambers) in the Guam-dong tomb group.

In addition, the amount of stone used was overwhelmingly higher than in other tombs, and various artifacts such as gilt-bronze earrings, glazed cups, earthenware, and horse gear were excavated inside. Based on this, the tomb’s construction period is estimated to be from the late 5th century to the early 6th century.

Although no key artifacts directly revealing the authority of the deceased were discovered due to grave robbing, considering the large burial mound, the unprecedented layout, and the large-scale use of stones, it is highly likely that the owner of this tomb was the highest leader of the 'Palgeorihyeon' region centered around the Guam-dong Tomb Cluster.

At the on-site briefing session held on the 24th, you can directly view the excavated artifacts and the inside of the tomb, and the excavation team will provide explanations on-site. Anyone can participate, and a collection of materials will be distributed on-site.

Bae Gwang-sik, the mayor of Buk-gu, said, "This excavation is an important achievement that has once again confirmed the historical status of the Guam-dong Tomb Cluster." He added, "We will complete the maintenance and restoration in the future and develop various national heritage content using this to transform it into a cultural asset that all local residents can enjoy."
