이번 평가는 교통사고, 화재, 범죄, 생활안전, 자살, 감염병 등 6개 분야를 대상으로 2024년 통계를 활용해 지역의 안전수준과 안전의식을 종합 분석한 결과다. 평가 결과, 구미시는 교통사고·자살·감염병 분야에서 전년 대비 각각 한 단계씩 등급이 개선됐으며, 특히 화재와 감염병 분야에서는 도내에서 유일하게 1등급을 달성하는 성과를 거뒀다.

전국 시·군·구 가운데 3개 이상 분야에서 지수가 개선된 지역이 35곳에 불과한 점을 감안하면, 구미시의 이번 성과는 지역 안전관리 역량을 보여주는 의미 있는 결과로 평가된다.

구미시는 상대적으로 취약한 범죄 분야 개선을 위해 예방 중심의 안전 정책을 더욱 강화할 방침이다. 살인, 강도, 강간, 폭력, 절도 등 5대 주요 범죄 발생 지역을 중심으로 CCTV 설치를 확대하고, 아동안전지킴이집과 자율방범대 운영을 활성화하는 한편, 주민 참여형 범죄 예방 프로그램을 통해 현장 대응력을 높일 계획이다.

김장호 구미시장은 “이번 평가를 계기로 시 전반의 안전 정책을 면밀히 점검하고, 예방 중심의 대응 체계가 현장에 안정적으로 정착될 수 있도록 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
