국민의힘이 오는 3월 9일 대선과 함께 치러질 대구 중‧남구 국회의원 보궐선거에 무공천 입장을 밝히면서 소속의원들의 탈당과 무소속 출마 선언으로 후폭풍이 이어지는 가운데 국민의힘 이인선 예비후보와 주성영 전 의원이 엇갈린 행보를 보여 관심이 쏠리고 있다.

그는 “저를 키워주고 품어 주었던 국민의힘을 지키고, 현재 맡고 있는 '중앙선대위 대구 경제발전추진단장'직에 모든 것을 쏟아 붓겠다.”면서 “응원해주신 중·남구 주민 여러분들께 대선 승리로 보답하겠다.”는 뜻을 전했다.

한편 같은 날 주성영 전 의원은 국채보상공원에서 대구 중‧남구 보궐선거에 대한 공식 입장을 밝혔다.

앞서 출마 여부를 고심하며 입장을 번복했던 주 전 의원은 이날 보궐선거 출마를 공식선언하며 “2년 남짓한 남은 임기동안 낙후된 중남구의 변화와 발전을 위해서는 힘 있는 3선의원이 필요하고, 그런 의미에서 제가 적임자라고 본다.”고 주장했다.

그러면서 그는 “지난 국회의원 선거 당시 국민의힘을 탈당한 후 지금까지 복당하지 않았기 때문에 무소속 출마를 하더라도 아무런 문제가 없어 '대구 중남구 출마를 위해 탈당하면 복당을 허용하지 않겠다'는 중앙당 원칙에서 자유롭다”고 강조하며 “당선 후 입당해서 새정부의 뿌리와 기둥이 될 것”이라고 각오를 밝히기도 했다.

한편 더불어민주당에서는 해당 지역에 민주사회를위한 변호사모임 출신으로 국가균형발전위 자문위원과 대한변호사협회 이사 등을 지낸 백수범 변호사를 전략공천하겠다고 밝혔다.

이로 인해 범보수 진영 후보들의 난립 가운데 민주당의 어부지리 당선에 대한 기대가 높아지면서 후보 등록이 마무리되는 13일 이전까지 또 다른 불출마자가 나올지에도 귀추가 주목되고 있다.
