지난 12월 1일 법률안이 국회 행정안전위원회를 통과한 이후 7일 법제사법위원회를 거쳐 8일 본회의 의결까지 일사천리로 진행됐다.

이로써 2023년 7월 1일 경상북도 군위군은 대구광역시 군위군으로 행정구역이 변경된다.

군위군이 편입되면 대구시 면적이 884㎢에서 1,498㎢로 약 70% 확대돼 단숨에 전국 특·광역시 중 1위에 등극하게 되며, 넓어진 면적만큼 풍부한 가용자원을 바탕으로 미래 신산업 육성의 발판이 될 것으로 기대된다.

또 대구경북통합신공항 건설의 선결조건인 군위군의 대구시 편입으로 각종 인·허가 등 법정사무에 대한 군위군의 원활한 협조로 신공항 건설사업 추진에 탄력을 받을 전망이다.

대구시는 당초 목표로 했던 올해 정기국회 내에 법률안이 통과된 만큼 내년 7월 1일자로 편입이 안정적으로 마무리되도록 군위군 편입에 따른 후속조치 계획을 본격적으로 실행할 예정이다.

주요 준비 사항으로는 주요 사업계획 검토(도시·교통계획, 학군 조정, 농업·상수도 분야), 자치법규 정비, 국·공유재산 및 물품인수, 사무 인계인수, 세입·세출예산 조정, 전산시스템 정비, 각종 공부정리, 안내표지판 정비 등이다.

대구시·경북도·군위군 간 공동협의회를 구성·운영해 편입 준비과정에서의 이견을 조정하고 상호 협의해 나갈 계획이다.

홍준표 대구시장은 “군위군의 대구 편입 법률안의 국회 통과로 통합신공항특별법 통과에 청신호가 켜졌다”며, “군위군과 함께 대도약의 공항도시와 신산업의 도시로 성장할 수 있도록 장기적인 계획을 차근차근 준비해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
