경북도의회가 군위군의 대구편입에 대해 찬성으로 결론을 지으며 이와 함께 통합신공항 이전·건설 사업에도 가속도가 붙을 것으로 기대된다.

14일 경북도의회는 제326회 제2차 본회의에서 경상북도 관할구역 변경(안)에 대한 의견제시의 건에 대해 찬반투표를 진행했다.

재적의원 59명 중 59명이 '군위 대구 편입'에 대해 투표한 결과 찬성 36표, 반대 22표, 기권 1표가 나와 찬성으로 결론이 지어졌다.

앞서 경북도의회는 같은 안건에 대해 찬성도 반대도 아닌 ‘의견 없음’으로 입장을 밝힌 바 있었는데 이에 대해 전해철 행정안전부 장관이 경북도의회의 명확한 입장을 요구하면서 경북도의회는 불과 한 달만에 찬성으로 입장을 매듭지은 것으로 알려진다.

경북도는 도의회에서 명확한 찬성의결이 도출된 만큼 행안부에 도의회 의견을 보완하고 연내 법률안 추진을 건의할 계획을 전하였으며 이후 행정안전부는 법률안 입안, 입법예고, 법제처 법안심사, 차관․국무회의, 법률안 국회제출을 거치게 되며 국회에서 법률제정절차를 밟게 된다.

군위군이 대구경북통합신공항 유치 조건으로 군위군 대구편입을 내걸었던 만큼 경북도의회의 이와 같은 결정에 통합신공항 이전·건설 사업에도 청신호가 켜졌다. 

이철우 경북도지사는 “(도의회의)찬성결정의 바탕에는 대구경북통합신공항에 대한 차질 없는 진행으로 대한민국의 관문공항으로 성장시켜 달라는 도민들의 준엄한 목소리를 대변하고 있음을 잘 알고 있다”면서 “대구경북통합신공항 건설과 관련 교통망 확충에 수반되는 국비지원과 관련 절차가 순조롭게 진행될 수 있도록 적극적인 추진과 협조를 해 줄 것”을 촉구했다.

권영진 대구시장은 “대구·경북 미래를 위해 고심 끝에 내린 경북도의원님들의 대승적 결단에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드리며, 군위군 편입이 조속히 마무리돼 대구·경북 100년 미래의 먹거리 산업인 통합신공항 건설 사업이 성공적으로 추진되도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
