【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구보건대학교는 나이지리아 출신 아쿠네포 나마카 발렌티나 학생이 임상실습을 앞두고 나이팅게일 선서를 했다고 25일 전했다.

2004년 경기도 의정부에서 출생한 아쿠네포 나마카 발렌티나 학생은 고등학교 2학년부터 대구보건대 간호학과를 목표로 했다. 그는 당시 대학에서 실시하는 다문화 프로그램 참여 모집 공고를 발견했고 대상인 다문화 가정은 아니었지만 ‘외국인도 참여 하면 어때’라며 긍정적으로 생각하고 교육에 참여하게 됐다.

프로그램을 통해 대학을 직접 방문해 학과 교수님들로부터 전공에 대한 안내를 들은 발렌티나 학생은 손에 잡히지 않던 간호사의 꿈이 가까이 다가오게 됐다고 설명했다. 

2023년 대구보건대 간호학과로 합격증을 받아들고 현재 2학년에 재학 중인 발렌티나 학생의 성적은 1학년 전체 학점 4.5점 만점에 4.2점을 받을 정도로 우수하다.

그는 정규 교과과정 외 다양한 비정규 교육과정을 통해 역량을 스스로 관리하는 DHC-Nitingale 3+3! 프로그램을 통해 전문성과 인성을 갖춘 간호사로 성장하는데 단연 큰 도움이 됐다고 전했다.

지난 8월 글로컬대학 30 선정으로 글로벌 인재 양성을 위한 교육 프로그램이 확대될 계획에 기대를 전하며 캐나다, 미국, 호주, 일본, 필리핀 등 자매대학의 연수와 보건통합현장교육을 통해 글로벌화 할 수 있는 체계적인 지원 프로그램을 대학의 장점으로 꼽았다. 

2021년부터 간호대학은 단독건물(나이팅게일관)로 옮겨 완벽한 리모델링으로 기본간호학실습실, 자율실습실, 시뮬레이션실습실, 건강사정실습실 및 기초간호학실습실 등을 구축했다. 

발렌티나 학생은 최근 첫 병원 실습을 앞두고 나이팅게일 선서식에 참여했다. 새 실습복을 받아든 그는 병원에서 실제로 환자들을 만난다는 생각에 설렌다고 전했다. 그는 현재 외국인 유학생 신분으로 한국 국적을 취득할 수 없다. 성인이 된 후 5년을 기다려 귀화 시험을 치룰 수 있지만 조급해 하지 않고, 간호사 면허까지 완벽하게 준비하겠다며 의지를 불태웠다.

발렌티나씨는 “일생을 정의롭게 살면서 의료현장에서 성심으로 보건의료인들과 협조해 간호를 필요로 하는 사람들의 안녕을 위해 헌신하겠다”며, “국내에서 간호사로 인정받고 커리어를 쌓아 세계 곳곳의 생명을 살리기 위해 몸을 던지고 나이팅게일의 숭고한 간호정신을 이어 나가겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.

Daegu Health College announced on the 25th that Akunepo Namaka Valentina, a Nigerian student, took the Nightingale Pledge ahead of her clinical practice.

Born in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province in 2004, Akunepo Namaka Valentina had been aiming for the Department of Nursing at Daegu Health College since her second year of high school. At the time, she discovered a recruitment notice for a multicultural program being held by the university, and although she was not a multicultural family, she thought positively and participated in the education, thinking, “What if foreigners participate too?”

Through the program, Valentina visited the university in person and received guidance on her major from professors in the department, explaining that her dream of becoming a nurse, which had been out of reach, has come closer.

Valentina, who received her acceptance to the Department of Nursing at Daegu Health College in 2023 and is currently a second-year student, has excellent grades, receiving 4.2 out of 4.5 points for her entire first-year GPA.

He said that the DHC-Nitingale 3+3! program, which allows him to manage his own capabilities through various non-regular education courses in addition to the regular curriculum, was a great help in growing into a nurse with expertise and character.

He expressed his expectations for the expansion of the educational program for fostering global talents with the selection of 30 Global Universities in August, and cited the systematic support program that can globalize through training at sister universities in Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, and the Philippines, and integrated health field education as the university's strength.

Starting in 2021, the College of Nursing moved to a separate building (Nightingale Hall) and completely remodeled it to build a basic nursing practice lab, an autonomous practice lab, a simulation practice lab, a health assessment practice lab, and a basic nursing practice lab.

Student Valentina recently participated in the Nightingale Oath Ceremony ahead of her first hospital practice. She received a new lab uniform and said she was excited about meeting actual patients at the hospital. She is currently an international student and cannot obtain Korean citizenship. Although she can wait 5 years after becoming an adult to take the naturalization test, she expressed her determination not to rush and to prepare perfectly for the nursing license.

Valentina said, “I will live my life righteously and wholeheartedly cooperate with healthcare professionals in the medical field to dedicate myself to the well-being of those who need nursing,” and “I will be recognized as a nurse in Korea and build a career, and devote myself to saving lives all over the world and carry on Nightingale’s noble nursing spirit.”
