【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경북도의회는 9일 미 상호관세 협상카드로 검토 중인 정부의 미국산 사과 수입 추진의 즉각 중단을 촉구했다. 사과는 경북도의 대표적인 농작물로, 미국산 사과가 수입될 경우 지역 사과 농가에 엄청난 타격이 예상된다.

 경북도는 전국 사과 생산량의 62%를 차지하는 전국 최대 주산지로, 청송과 영주, 안동을 중심으로 도내 약 1만 8천여 농가가 1만 9천 ha를 재배하고 있다. 총생산액 기준으로도 전국 1조3,769억 원 중 8,247억 원(60%)을 차지할 정도로 전국 사과산업에서 절대적 비중을 담당하고 있다.

도의회는 “산업통상자원부가 농림축산식품부에 한미 통상 협상 카드로 제시하기 위한 미국산 사과 수입을 전향적으로 검토할 것을 지시한 것”과 관련, “경상북도 사과 주산지 시장군수협의회를 비롯하여, 각 생산자단체를 중심으로 도내 과수농가의 강한 우려와 반발이 빗발치고 있다”고 주장했다. 

의회는 최병준 부의장(의장직무대리) 명의의 성명서를 통해 ‘미국산 사과 수입이 현실화될 경우 도내 사과생산농가는 물론, 국내 과수 산업 전체가 회복 불가능한 타격을 입을 것“이라고 강한 우려를 표명하고 ”최근 초대형 산불 피해와 고령화, 이상기후, 생산비 상승으로 벼랑 끝에 내몰린 도내 과수 농가를 절벽 아래로 밀어버리는 행위’라고 강하게 비판했다. 

농수산위원회 신효광(청송) 위원장은“더이상 농민이 통상협상의 희생양이 되어서는 안된다”면서“정부는 미국산 사과 수입 검토를 즉각 중단하고, 책임있는 입장을 신속히 밝혀야 한다”고 강조했다.

In a statement issued under the name of Vice Chairman Choi Byeong-jun (acting chairman), the council expressed strong concerns, saying, “If the import of American apples becomes a reality, not only apple farmers in the province but also the entire domestic fruit industry will suffer irreparable damage,” and strongly criticized it as “an act that pushes provincial fruit farmers who have been pushed to the edge of a cliff due to recent damage from large-scale wildfires, aging population, abnormal weather, and rising production costs off a cliff.”

Shin Hyo-kwang (Cheongsong), chairman of the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, emphasized, “Farmers should no longer be the sacrificial lambs in trade negotiations,” and “The government should immediately stop reviewing the import of American apples and quickly state its responsible position.”
