【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=이철우 경상북도 도지사는 4일 경주 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 준비 현장을 찾은 장동혁 국민의힘 대표와 지도부에게 준비 상황을 설명하고, 정상회의장, 경제 전시장 등 주요 시설을 함께 둘러본 후, APEC 정상회의 기간 열릴 미‧중 정상회담이 국립경주박물관 행사장에서 개최될 수 있도록 당 차원에서 협조해 줄 것을 건의했다고 밝혔다.

장동혁 대표와 김도읍 정책위 의장, 정희용 사무총장, 서천호 전략기획부총장 등 주요 지도부는 김석기 외교통일위원장, 김기현 APEC 특위 위원장, 이만희 APEC 특위 간사를 비롯해 김정재, 임이자 의원 등 경북 지역의원들과 함께 경주를 찾았다. 

경북관광공사 대강당에서 이뤄진 APEC 준비 상황 보고에서 김상철 경상북도 APEC 준비지원단장은“정상회의 기반 시설 조성과 관련, 많은 걱정이 있었지만, APEC 유치 직후 준비지원단을 구성하고, 예비비를 투입해 사전설계 등 전 행정력을 동원한 결과, 현재는 주요시설 골격이 모두 완성됐고, 중앙부처에서 진행 중인 내부 실내장식 마무리 공사가 진행 중이다”며“정상 숙소인 PRS 35개소 조성 또한 지난 9월 말 모두 마무리돼 각국 정상들과 세계적 CEO들을 맞을 준비를 하고 있다”고 말했다. 

또한“경주엑스포 공원에는 대한민국산업의 과거와 현재, 미래를 보여주고, 도내 30개 강소기업의 기술력을 선보일 케이(K)-비즈니스 스퀘어(경제전시장)가 준비 중이며, 야외 파밀리온 돔에는 국내․외 대기업과 우수 강소기업의 기술 전시 공간인 K-테크 쇼케이스 조성 예정으로, S, L사 등 국내 최고의 기술기업이 들어올 채비를 하고 있다”라고 밝혔다.

이와 함께“신라금관 특별전, 백남준 특별전 등 중앙정부에서 시행하는 특별 문화공연 외에, 월정교에서 펼쳐질 한복 패션쇼, 보문호를 아름답게 수 놓을 보문멀티미어쇼, 대릉원 파사드 공연, 확장현실(XR) 모빌리티 버스 운행 등 경북의 문화 DNA에 첨단기술을 접목한 새로운 문화 콘텐츠로 정상회의 기간 보문을 찾는 참가자들에게 감동을 전하고 다시 찾고 싶은 경주의 이미지를 심어주기 위해 준비 중”이라고 했다.

경북도는 또“교통·수송 특별본부를 운영하고, 의사, 간호사로 이뤄진 APEC 의료지원단을 24시간 상시 가동하는 등 참가자들이 편안하고 안전하게 정상회의를 마칠 수 있는 대책이 준비됐다”고 보고했다.

이들은 보고회 후 정상회의장, 미디어센터가 조성 중인 화백컨벤션센터와 경제 전시장이 조성 중인 경주문화엑스포 공원을 둘러보고 APEC 준비 상황에 대한 점검을 이어갔다. 

장동혁 대표는 “명절 연휴가 시작됐지만 쉬지 못하고 준비하시는 관계자분들의 노고에 감사드린다”라고 인사를 전하며“APEC 정상회의는 격랑의 국제정세 속에서 국격을 지켜낼 기회이고, 대한민국을 한 단계 더 성장시키고 새로운 성장동력을 마련할 수 있는 중요한 계기다. 정상회의를 반드시 성공시켜서 대한민국의 역동적인 힘과 찬란한 문화를 전 세계 알리는 기회로 활용해야 한다”라고 말했다.

또 “이번 회의가 1천 전 실크로드의 심장이었던 경주가 APEC을 통해 세계적 중심으로 재도약하는 계기가 될 것”이라며“국민의힘은 오직 국익과 국민만을 바라보며 회의의 성공을 위해 모든 역량을 다할 것”이라고 약속했다. 

이철우 경상북도지사는 “지난달 25일 대표님과 국민의힘 의원님들의 도움으로‘산불지원 특별법’과‘APEC 결의안’이 국회를 통과하게 된 것에 대해 감사드린다”라며“산불로 힘들어하는 도민들과, 큰 국제행사를 앞두고 모두 역량을 집중하고 있는 도민들에게 큰 힘이 될 것”이라고 감사의 인사를 전했다. 

이어 그는“현재 APEC 시설은 완벽히 준비됐으며, 이제 중요한 것은 운영”이라고 강조하고“우리 도는 지난 9월부터 APEC 준비를 위한 현장 준비 체제로 전환하고 1,000개가 넘는 점검표를 마련해 시설 안전부터 숙박·식당 서비스 하나하나 현장에서 점검하고 있으며, 저 역시 지난 9월 17일부터 경주 현장에 머물려 현장점검을 진행 중이다”고 말했다.

이 지사는 또 “대한민국이 초일류 국가로 나가는 초석을 놓고, 경상북도 도약의 새로운 전기를 마련하며, 경주를 세계 10대 관광도시로 만들기 위해 반드시 이번 행사를 역사상 가장 성공한 행사로 만들겠다”라며 “당 차원에서 많은 지원을 부탁한다”고 당부했다.

 Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo announced on the 4th that he briefed People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok and the party leadership on the progress of preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Gyeongju. Key leaders, including People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok, Policy Committee Chairman Kim Do-eup, Secretary-General Jeong Hee-yong, and Vice President for Strategic Planning Seo Cheon-ho, visited Gyeongju along with Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee Chairman Kim Seok-ki, APEC Special Committee Chairman Kim Ki-hyun, APEC Special Committee Secretary Lee Man-hee, and Gyeongsangbuk-do local lawmakers Kim Jeong-jae and Lim I-ja.

At a briefing on APEC preparations held at the Gyeongbuk Tourism Organization's main auditorium, Kim Sang-cheol, head of the Gyeongsangbuk-do APEC Preparation Support Team, stated, "There were many concerns regarding the establishment of the summit infrastructure. However, immediately after the APEC bid, we formed a preparation support team and mobilized all administrative resources, including preliminary design, using reserve funds. As a result, the framework for the major facilities has been completed, and the central government is currently finalizing the interior decoration work." He added, "The construction of 35 PRS (Premier Reception Rooms) for the summit accommodations was completed at the end of September, and we are now ready to welcome world leaders and global CEOs."

He also stated, "The K-Business Square (economic exhibition hall) is currently under construction at Gyeongju Expo Park, showcasing the past, present, and future of Korean industry and showcasing the technological prowess of 30 leading small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the province. The outdoor Pamillion Dome will also house the K-Tech Showcase, a technology exhibition space for domestic and international conglomerates and leading SMEs. We are preparing to welcome top domestic technology companies, such as S and L."

In addition, the provincial government stated, "In addition to special cultural performances hosted by the central government, such as the Silla Gold Crown Special Exhibition and the Nam June Paik Special Exhibition, we are also preparing new cultural content that combines Gyeongbuk's cultural DNA with cutting-edge technology. This includes a hanbok fashion show at Woljeonggyo Bridge, the Bomun Multimedia Show that will beautifully decorate Bomun Lake, a performance on the Daereungwon Facade, and the operation of an extended reality (XR) mobility bus. We are preparing to impress participants visiting Bomun during the summit and create an image of Gyeongju that will make them want to return."

Gyeongbuk Province also reported, "We have prepared measures to ensure the comfort and safety of participants during the summit, including operating a special transportation headquarters and a 24-hour APEC medical support team comprised of doctors and nurses."

Following the briefing, the provincial officials toured the Hwabaek Convention Center, which is currently under construction to house the summit venue and media center, and the Gyeongju Culture Expo Park, which is currently under construction to house an economic exhibition hall. They then reviewed the progress of APEC preparations.

Representative Jang Dong-hyuk expressed his gratitude, saying, "Despite the start of the holiday season, I appreciate the tireless efforts of those involved in preparation." He added, "The APEC Summit is an opportunity to preserve our national prestige amidst the turbulent international climate, and it is a crucial opportunity to further develop the Republic of Korea and establish new growth engines. We must make this summit a success and use it as an opportunity to showcase the Republic of Korea's dynamic strength and brilliant culture to the world."

He also stated, "This summit will serve as an opportunity for Gyeongju, the heart of the Silk Road a thousand years ago, to leap forward as a global hub through APEC. The People Power Party will dedicate all its resources to the success of this summit, focusing solely on the national interest and the people."

Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo expressed his gratitude, saying, "I'm grateful to you and the People Power Party lawmakers for helping to pass the 'Special Act on Forest Fire Support' and the 'APEC Resolution' through the National Assembly on the 25th of last month. This will be a great help to the residents of Gyeongsangbuk-do who are struggling due to the forest fires and to those who are focusing their energies on preparing for this major international event."

He continued, "The APEC facilities are now fully prepared, and the important thing now is operation." He added, "Since September, our province has transitioned to an on-site preparation system for APEC. We have prepared over 1,000 checklists and are conducting on-site inspections of everything from facility safety to accommodation and restaurant services. I have also been in Gyeongju since September 17th conducting on-site inspections."

The governor also said, “We will make this event the most successful in history to lay the foundation for South Korea to become a first-class nation, create a new turning point for the advancement of Gyeongsangbuk-do, and make Gyeongju one of the world’s top 10 tourist cities,” and asked for “great support at the party level.”
