더불어민주당 김봉재 전 구미시갑지역위원회 위원장이 제8회 전국동시지방선거 구미시장 출마를 공식선언하며 기자회견을 개최했다.

지난 30일 오후 2시 김봉재 예비후보는 “선거기간 동안 유세 현장에서 시민들의 생생한 목소리를 들으며 무엇이 부족하며 어떤 것들이 시민들의 마음을 얻지 못했는지 깨달았고 다시 한 번 마음을 가다듬었다”고 밝혔다.

그러면서 그는 “구미시는 226개 지방자치 단체 중 하나에 불과하지만 300억 달러 이상을 수출하는 지방자치단체는 거의 없다”며 “구미의 산업 정체성에 맞추어 여야와 진보와 보수의 개념을 떠나 흑묘백묘의 논리로 오직 구미 발전만을 생각할 구미시장이 필요하다”고 강조했다. 

또한 ”국민의 힘이 집권했던 지난 20여년의 세월은 과거의 화려한 위상에 안주해 다가올 미래의 위기를 대비하지 못했다. 구미의 위기를 숨긴 채 시민들에게 달콤한 거짓말로 안심시켰으며 현장에서 위기의 해결책을 찾기보다는 중앙 정치권에 기생해 자신들의 영달만을 추구했다.“고 주장했다. 

김 예비후보는 “시장은 집행자이다. 윤석열 당선인도 구미 6대 공약을 냈다. 대통령 공약이 시장의 공약보다는 더 실현될 가능성이 있다”며 “같은 당 소속 시장이 과연 이러한 말을 할 수 있을까라는 의심이 간다. 이제 야당 소속이 될 더불어민주당의 김봉재가 그 적임자”라고 주장했다.

그러면서 김봉재 예비후보는 국가산단을 스마트그린산단으로 전환 추진, 대구통합신공항‧광역철도망을 연계한 국가산단 접근성 개선 등을 공약했다.

또한 구미를 소품, 부품, 장비 미래산업도시로 육성 할 것과 구미 National Vaccine Center(GNVC) 구축할 것 그리고 워킹맘과 청년이 행복한 도시, 낙동강 생태축 회복, 새마을 연수원 구미이전, 입시컨설팅지원센터 설립, 지역농산물 활용한 로컬푸드 활성화 등의 공약을 발표했다.   

아울러 김 예비후보는 “구미는 제 아들과 딸이 태어나고 자란 곳이며, 이제 제가 뼈를 묻어야 할 고향이다, 대화로 소통하고, 이해로 서로를 감싸 안으며 차가운 이성으로 미래를 개척해 나가자”고 밝히며 “구미시장 선거는 부정한 권력을 찾는 선거가 아니라 구미시민 모두가 다 같이 ‘함께할 우리’를 찾는 선거”라고 거듭 강조했다.
