해당 모임에는 구미시청을 출입하는 기자 20여 명이 속해 있는 것으로 파악되었으며 경북경찰청 반부패경제범죄수사대는 압수한 증거물 등을 토대로 구미시장 전 예비후보 A씨의 선거사무실을 압수수색한 것으로 알려진다.
이에 더불어민주당 경북도당은 “혐의가 사실이라면 더 이상 구미에서 일어나서는 안 될 중대한 선거범죄”라며 경찰 당국의 철저한 수사를 촉구했다.
민주당은 “경찰 당국에서는 해당 사실을 어떠한 성역 없이 철저히 수사해 진상을 파악해야 한다”고 강조하였으며 아울러 “국민의힘도 해당 사건 수사에 적극 협조하고 현재 국민의힘 김장호 구미시장 후보 캠프에 공동선거대책위원장으로 합류해있는 범죄 혐의자인 당사자의 즉각적인 사퇴조치를 취하라”고 목소리를 높였다.
