김장호 전 경북도기획조정실장이 오는 6월 1일 치러질 제8회 전국동시지방선거 구미시장 출마를 선언하며 기자회견을 개최했다.
16일 출마 기자회견을 개최한 김장호 예비후보는 “통합신공항 시대를 잘 대비하면 절체절명의 위기에 처해있는 구미를 구할 수 있다.”는 입장을 전했다.

그러면서 “경북도청에서 기획조정실장 시절 대구경북통합신공항추진지원반장(TF)을 맡으면서 공항과 연계된 배후도시에 대해 연구를 많이 했다.”고 밝히며 “구미가 통합신공항의 수혜를 받기 위해서는 교통인프라 확충과 국제도시 배후도시로서의 준비를 신속히 해야 한다”고 강조했다.
그는 “도시의 힘은 결국 사람이 답이다”고 설명하며 “모든 사업들은 결국 인재를 끌어오는 일부터 시작되어야 한다. 지역의 대학과 기업, 그리고 시민들을 하나로 묶는 일에 구미시장과 구미시청이 앞장 설 것”이라고 밝혔다.
