국민의힘 소속으로 대구 동구을 국회의원이자 현 국민의힘 지명직 최고위원인 강 의원은 26일 아시아 포럼 21 릴레이정책토론회에 참석해 “우여곡절 끝에 법이 통과했다. 힘들었지만 시도민의 염원으로 무사히 주어진 임무를 수행한 것 같다”면서 “신공항의 원활한 연착륙을 위해 끝까지 최선을 다하고 남은 과정에 미력하나마 힘을 보태겠다”고 말했다. 

이어 “13단계 과정으로 볼 수 있는 민간사업자 선정이 남아 있는 일정상 가장 어려운 부분이 될 수 있다. 또 이전 과정에서 국방부가 예산과 관련하여 어떤 목소리를 낼지....주시할 필요가 있다”고 덧붙였다. 

K2 공항 내 미군 부대 시설이 SOFA 협정 때문에 공항 이전에 걸림돌이 되지 않느냐는 질문에 대해서는 "국방부와 대구시 모두 아무런 문제가 되지 않는다고 답변해 왔다"고 밝혔다

강 의원은 “온갖 산고를 겪은 만큼, 신공항은 이 고비만 잘 견뎌내면 예정된 일정에 연착륙이  가능할 것으로 판단한다”고 말하고 “대구시는 민간사업자 선정에, 경북도는 공항 주변을 어떻게 개발할지를 고민하면 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다. 그러면서 “중앙의 일부 언론들이 포퓰리즘 정책이라고 비판하는 데는 절대 동의할 수 없다. 대구 군공항은 그동안 4천 3백억원, 매년 250억이라는 비용을 소음피해 보상에 쓴다. 이 비용이 공항이 옮겨가면 보전된다”고 강조했다.

윤석열 정부의 3대 개혁 가운데 연금 개혁에 대하여는 “전 정부를 탓하기는 싫지만, 문재인 정부가 연금 개혁에 손을 놓다가 지금까지 왔다”고 했다. 그러면서 “연금은 모수 개혁만 손대서는 해결되지 않는다. 모수개혁과 구조 개혁이 동반되어야 한다”고 주장했다.

김재원 최고위원의 설화 논란에 대하여는 “결자해지”를 주문했다. 또 TK 물갈이 설에 대해서도 “규모를 정해 놓고 물갈이하겠다는 자체에 반대한다”며 “교체하더라도 의정활동 후 지역에 뿌리를 내릴 수 있는 사명감 있는 인사가 돼야 한다"고 했다. 그러면서 ”지역 국회의원들의 정치력 부재 논란과 관련해서는 “그렇게 생각하실 수 있다”며 “그러나 윤재옥 원내대표 선출을 계기로 달라지고 있다”고 말했다.
