특히, 홍 시장은 “수도권의 절반에 가까운 중남부권 경제권을 형성하기 위해서는 중남부권 중추공항으로서 TK신공항이 조속히 착공․건설 되어야 한다”며 “이를 위해서는 특별법이 반드시 통과되어야 한다”고 지도부 차원의 협조를 요청했다. 또, 그는 “특별법이 통과되면 3년 이상 행정절차를 줄일 수 있어 당장 내년이라도 착공이 가능할 것”이라고 강조했다.

홍 시장은 그러면서 대구지역 국회의원 전원이 서명한 ‘대구경북통합신공항 건설 특별법 제정 및 군위군의 대구광역시 편입 당론 지정 촉구 결의문’을 권성동 대표 직무대행 겸 원내대표에게 전달했다.
