경북도는 이날 심사는 대구경북신공항 건설사업에 대한 전반적인 설명과 특별법에 대한 정부 관계기관의 의견을 청취 및 특별법의 주요 골자를 살펴보는 것으로 마무리하고 쟁점사항에 대해서는 추후 논의하기로 했다고 밝혔다. 

경상북도 이철우 도지사는 이날 국회를 찾아 지난 10일 영남권 5개 시도가 대구경북신공항과 가덕도신공항의 조기 개항과 지역갈등 예방을 위해 협력한다는 내용을 설명하면서 현재 소위에 상정된 가덕도신공항 특별법 개정 법률안과 대구경북신공항 특별법을 모두 긍정적으로 검토해 달라고 요청했다. 

특히, 대구경북신공항 특별법의 주용 쟁점인 ‘중남부권의 중추 공항’과 같은 표현과 기부대 양여 방식에 대한 국비 지원 조항에 대하여 오해하지 않도록 충분한 설명을 곁들였다.

이철우 도지사는 “확실한 지방시대를 열어가기 위해서는 대구경북신공항과 가덕도신공항이 모두 정부의 지원을 받아 충분한 규모로 건설돼야 한다”며“앞으로 두 공항과 관련해 상정된 법률안 모두 조속히 통과되기를 희망한다”고 말했다.

소위원회가 끝난 뒤 이철우 도지사는 야당 간사인 최인호 의원(더불어민주당, 부산사하구갑)과 여당 간사인 김정재 의원(국민의힘, 포항시북구)을 차례로 만나 쟁점에 대한 경북도의 입장을 설명하고 신속히 소위를 추가 개최해 줄 것을 요청했다.

이에 대해 최인호 의원은 “경상북도의 입장에 충분히 공감하며, 관계기관 의견 수렴 후 잘 처리하겠다”고 긍정적으로 답변했다.

경북도는 김정재 의원도 “그 동안 최선을 다해 노력해온 만큼 특별법 통과는 낙관한다”며“빠른 시일 내 다시 소위를 개최하는 방안을 협의하도록 하겠다고 말했다”밝혔다. 

한편, 지난 해 연말 통과를 목표로 잡았던 대구시와 경북도는 1차 실패후 늦어도 2차는 설 명절 전에 통과를 다시 목표로 잡았지만 부산의 최인호 의원이 뒤늦게 가덕도 공항과의 형평성을 들고 나오면서 또다시 연기됐다. 최근 최 의원이 영남권 5개 광역 단체장들의 합의와 함께 통합신공항과 가덕도 공항 특별법 쟁점에 상호 협력하기로 하면서 16일 첫 소위 심사가 이뤄졌다.
