이미 김해 신공항 확장이라는 정부 결정에 반발해 실시하는 이번 프로젝트의 속내에는 ‘가덕신공항의 성공’이라는 진정성보다는 선거용에 지나지 않는 게 지역정가의 분석이다.

그러나 지역 정가에서 무작정 민주당의 선거 프레임만 지적하고 있는 것은 아니다. 부산의 상황에 대응한 이른바 TK 대응팀의 부재와 전략에 대해서도 우려를 나타내는 등 대구경북 스스로의 자구책 마련을 촉구하고 있다.

불행 중 다행으로 무소속 홍준표 의원을 제외한 24명의 국민의힘 TK 의원들은 큰 목소리를 내고 있진 않지만 외면상으로는 강력 반발 모양새를 유지하고 있다.

다만, 한 목소리를 내도 힘겨운 싸움이 예상되는 상황에서 대구지역 국회의원과 경북지역 국회의원의 목소리가 상대적으로 약한 것 아니냐는 우려가 나오고 있다. 자연히 ‘대구 의원 따로 경북 의원 따로‘라는 예전 TK 따로국밥식 정치 행보가 재현되는 것 아니냐는 것.

실제 이낙연 더불어민주당 대표는 지난 21일 민주당 부산시당이 주최하는 ‘가덕신공항·신항만 발전 방향과 경제적 파급효과’를 주제로 열리는 ‘정책엑스포’와 가덕도 현장 참석을 통해 가덕 신공항 특별법 2월 통과를 공언했다. 그리고 "가덕도 신공항이 빨리 완공되도록 있는 힘을 다해 돕겠다"고도 했다.

단순히 부산시장 재보궐선거를 앞두고 지역 민심을 다독이면서 국토교통부의 ‘김해신공항 백지화 입장 표명’을 특별법 처리의 선결조건으로 내세우는 국민의힘과 차별화에 나서겠다는 뜻으로 풀이되는 발언이다. 그러면서 민주당은 ‘국민의힘이 특별법 처리에 끝내 협조하지 않을 경우 단독 처리도 불사하겠다‘는 강한 의지도 보여주고 있다.

하루 앞선 20일에는 지역 오피니언 리더를 초대해 가덕신공항 예정지 인근 바다를 80분간 산회하며 선상 브리핑을 여는 등 가덕신공항 특별법 처리에 힘을 실었다.

 
이 같은 퍼포먼스에 대해 국민의힘 TK 의원들이 반발은 하지만 한 목소리로 지역민들의 걱정을 해소시키는 모습은 보이지 않는다.

지역정가 관계자는 “집권당의 보선 뒤집기 가덕신공항 승부수를 저지하고, TK 정치권의 존재감과 위상을 높이기 위해선 총력전을 벌여야 한다”면서 “그러기 위해서는 TK 의원들의 공동의 목소리가 필요한데 지금의 행보는 더디기만 하다”고 강조했다.

주호영 원내대표(대구 수성갑)와 3선의 김상훈 의원(대구 서구), 윤재옥 의원(대구 달서을), 국회 국방위 소속 강대식 의원(대구 동구을) 등 대구지역 대다수 대구 의원들이 "대구경북이 이렇게 넋놓고 있다가는 닭 쫓던 개 지붕 쳐다보는 격이 될 수 있다"며 입법 대응책 등 대책 마련을 서두를 기색이지만 경북 지역 의원들의 답은 없다.

국토교통위 소속 김희국 의원 (경북 군위의성청송영덕군)과 정희용 의원(경북 칠곡성주고령) 만이 “집권여당이 선거에 눈이 멀어 헌법체계를 뒤흔들고 있다. 이대로 손 놓고 있어선 안된다"는 개탄의 큰 목소리를 낼 뿐, 일부 경북지역 의원들의 가덕 신공항 반발 목소리는 크게 들리지 않고 있다.

 
이같은 현상은 권영진 대구시장과 이철우 경북도지사의 대구경북 행정통합 행보와도 상반되는 것이라서 의아스럽다는 반응이다.

 
지역정가 관계자는 "가덕신공항 특별법은 여당의 2월 단독 통과 가능성이 커지고 있는데 TK 의원들의 총체적 대응책을 모색하는 자리가 없다는 게 아쉽다"면서 "대구경북통합신공항지원 특별법 등으로 지역의 이익을 챙기는 것도 방법이 될 수 있다는 대구 강대식 의원의 해결책 제시 등 다각적인 대응책을 강구하기 위해 하루빨리 TK 의원들이 함께 모여야 한다"고 말했다. 이어 그는 "행정통합에 앞서 지역 현안 해결을 위해 대구경북 의원 모두의 마음을 하나로 합치는게 현재로선 가장 시급하다"고 거듭 강조했다.
