지난 14일 대구시는 행정안전부의 행정통합 중재안을 전격 수용한다는 입장을 밝혔다. 경북도 역시 긍정적인 입장으로 다양한 의견을 수렴해 최종 결정할 것으로 알려진다.

이에 조원진 대표는 “어그러진 행정통합 논의를 재개하기가 쉽지 않은데 두 단체장이 중재안을 흔쾌히 받아들인 것을 환영한다”며 “중앙정부가 적절한 시점에 대구시와 경상북도의 이해충돌이 일어나는 지점을 잘 찾아 중재안을 낸 것에 대해 높이 평가한다”고 말했다.

그는 “글로벌 차원에서 국가의 성장이 대도시를 중심으로 이루어지고 있는 점과 수도권 집중이 심화되는 현실을 감안할 때 TK특별시는 반드시 필요하다”고 강조했다.

그러면서 “논의 과정에서 이해가 충돌하는 사안이 나올 것으로 보이는데 이전처럼 단체장이 일방적으로 합의를 파기하는 돌출행동을 하는 일이 없이 원만히 대화로 문제를 풀기 바란다”고 덧붙였다.
