조 대표는 특히 이재명 대표가 현재 12가지 혐의로 5건의 재판을 받고 있다는 점을 강조하며, “대북송금, 대장동, 백현동 의혹 등은 국가와 국민을 배신한 중대한 범죄들”이라고 지적했다. 그는 “국민의힘 경선이 아무리 진지하지 않다 해도, 이재명과 김문수를 같은 선상에서 비교하는 것은 도무지 이해할 수 없다”고 말했다.

또한 조 대표는 토론회에서 한 후보가 했던 ‘아버지가 불법 계엄을 해도 막아야 한다’는 발언도 문제 삼았다. 그는 “만약 아버지가 불법 계엄을 했다면, 자식은 대선 출마는커녕 석고대죄를 해야 할 일”이라며 “오히려 아버지를 향해 먼저 나서서 ‘불법’이라고 규정하는 것은 인륜을 저버리고 권력을 좇는 행위”라고 비판했다.

조 대표는 끝으로 “한 후보가 여우 같은 말솜씨로 배신을 정당화하려는 모습은 정치를 오염시킬 뿐”이라며 “더 큰 정치, 진정한 보수를 원한다면 이번 조기 대선에서는 불출마하는 것이 바람직하다”고 말했다.
