30일 대구시는 오는 2031년까지 4천여억 원을 투자해 달성군 하빈면 대평리 667일대 27만8천㎡부지에 경매와 가공, 선별 등 첨단 도매유통 시설을 갖춘 농수산물 도매시장 건립하겠다는 입장을 발표했다.

대구 농수산물도매시장은 거래규모가 연간 1조 1천억에 달하는 한강이남 최대 규모의 공영도매시장으로 지난 1988년 개장 이후 35년간 지역 농수산물 유통의 중추적인 역할을 해왔다. 

그러나 시설노후화, 부지협소, 물류 및 주차 공간 부족에 따른 유통종사자들의 불편 호소와 교통 혼잡, 악취 등의 문제로 인한 주민들의 불만이 잇따르면서 2018년 대구시는 도매시장에 유통시설을 추가해 확장 및 재건축하기로 결정하고 사업을 추진해왔다.

이 가운데 지난해 10월, 시장에서 화재가 발생하자 빠르게 변하는 유통환경과 확장성 부족 등 근본적인 문제점과 함께 재난 안전에 대한 우려가 제기되었고 이전의 필요성이 대두되었다.

이에 대구시는 8개 구·군을 대상으로 추천받은 이전 후보지 북구의 팔달지구와 달성군의 하빈면 대평지구 두 곳에 대해 평가를 시행했다.

평가 결과 미래 확장 가능성이 높고 시설배치가 유리하며 사업성과 경제성에서 높은 평가를 받은 달성군 대평지구가 최종 이전지로 선정되었다.

최종 선정된 대평리 이전지에는 농식품부의 농산물 선진 유통시스템을 도입하여 21세기형 첨단 도매시장으로 건립할 예정이며 현재의 매천동 부지는 북구청과 협의를 통해 후적지 개발 방안을 마련하고 단계적 개발을 추진할 계획이다.

홍준표 대구시장은 “미래 50년을 위한 대구시의 유통산업 성장동력으로 도매시장 이전을 추진할 계획이다.” 라며, ‘농수축산물 거래 디지털 전환 등 선진 유통체계 도입으로 농수축산물 유통구조를 첨단화하여 생산자와 소비자 모두가 만족하는 대구 농수산물도매시장을 조성하겠다’라고 말했다.
