【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=대구 달서구(구청장 이태훈)가 도시생태축 복원사업의 일환으로 수달생태섬 조성을 완료했다.

달서구 도원지는 2019년부터 수달이 자주 발견되면서 천연기념물인 수달의 서식지임이 확인되었다.

이에 달서구는 멸종위기종인 수달을 보호하기 위하여 사업비 50억을 확보하여 도원천에서 진천천을 거쳐 달성습지에 이르는 ‘도시생태축 복원사업’을 실시하고 있다.

현재, 도원천~달성습지간 도시생태축 복원사업 기본계획 수립용역을 진행 중이며, 3월 10일 중간 용역보고회를 개최하여 추진상황 점검과 전문가 및 실무부서 협의를 통하여 사업이 성공적으로 진행될 수 있도록 할 계획이다.

특히 달서구가 도시생태축 복원사업의 일환으로 도원지 내 수달이 안정적으로 살아갈 수 있는 은신처 확보를 위해 조성한 수달생태섬은 36㎡ 크기로 전문가와 논의하여 모래, 바위, 풀, 관목 등 수달이 좋아하는 생태 환경으로 조성되었다.

수달생태섬은 향후 수달에게 생활터전을 위협하는 삵, 들고양이 등을 피해 안전한 생활과 번식 공간이 되어줄 것으로 기대된다.

아울러 달서구는 지속적인 모니터링을 통하여 수달의 습성, 서식 환경, 적응도를 조사하여 추가 설치 등을 검토할 계획이다.

이태훈 달서구청장은 “이번 수달생태섬 설치를 계기로 도원지와 우리 지역 최대 하천습지인 달성습지를 연결하는 생태축 복원사업을 잘 마무리하여 자연환경 보전 및 건강한 생태환경 조성과 생물다양성을 확보에 노력하겠다.”라고 말했다.
