장상길 포항시 부시장을 단장으로 열린 이번 회의에는 도시계획과, 건축디자인과 등 시청 16개 관련 부서와 남부소방서를 포함한 4개 유관기관이 참석해 AI데이터센터 건립을 위한 그간의 추진 경과를 공유하고 향후 일정과 협업 방안을 논의했다.

특히 이번 회의에서는 AI데이터센터 구축에 필수적인 각종 인·허가 요소를 전면 재검토하고, 공사 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 문제점에 대해 선제적으로 대응할 수 있는 방안을 집중 점검했다.

포항시는 오는 3월 착공을 목표로 산업단지계획 변경, 입주 승인, 건축허가 등 관련 인·허가 절차를 병행 추진해 이달 말까지 마무리할 방침이다. 아울러 기존 건축물과 심의 대상 건축물은 3월 중 모두 철거할 계획이다.

AI데이터센터 입지의 핵심 요소인 전력 공급 절차도 차질 없이 진행 중이다. 시는 지난해 11월 전력계통영향평가(기술평가)를 완료했으며, 같은 달 접수한 비기술평가가 이달 말 마무리되면 다음 달 중 사업자와 한국전력 간 전기사용 계약이 체결될 것으로 전망하고 있다.

오천읍 광명리 345번지 일원에 들어설 AI데이터센터는 총 대지면적 10만㎡ 규모로, 1단계 사업으로 약 4만7,000㎡를 우선 조성해 40MW급으로 운영을 시작할 예정이다. 이후 운영 성과에 따라 단계별 확장과 고도화를 추진할 계획이다.

한편 포항시는 지난 19일 AI데이터센터 구축사업을 시작으로 글로벌 AI 산업 선도 도시로 도약하기 위한 전략을 발표한 바 있다. 시는 지곡연구단지, 경제자유구역, 철강산단, 영일만산단 등에 축적된 제조·연구 데이터를 기반으로 포항 블루밸리산단을 산업 AX의 핵심 거점이자 경북 AI 삼각벨트(포항–구미–경산)를 이끄는 중심 산업단지로 육성할 방침이다.
