임종식 경북교육감 예비후보는 “체험을 통한 창의융합 능력향상을 위해 지난 4년 동안 경주에 발명체험교육관을, 안동, 상주, 칠곡, 경산에 수학체험센터를, 그리고 구미, 안동에 메이커교육관을 설립했다.”고 밝혔다.  

이어 “학생들이 융합적인 사고를 하기 위해서는 교실에서의 학습이 실제 체험 활동으로 연결되는 것이 중요하다"며"이미 설립된 각종 체험센터를 연계하여 권역별 창의․융합 에듀파크를 조성하겠다.”고 강조했다.

‘권역별 창의․융합 에듀파크 조성’은 기존에 설립된 수학체험센터, 메이커교육관, 발명체험교육관 등 각종 센터와 지역의 유관 기관 및 시설을 연계하는 프로그램으로 개발된다.

또한 유치원, 초,중,고 학교급별 체험프로그램을 수준별로 개발하여 운영할 예정이다. 

창의융합 에듀파크가 조성되면 센터별로 독립적으로 운영되던 기존 체험프로그램이 권역별, 수준별로 마련되어 좀 더 체계적이고 수준별로 운영되어 더 많은 학생들이 고르게 교육 혜택을 받을 수 있게 된다. 

임종식 예비후보는 “수학문화관 설립이 완료되면 경상북도교육청과학원과 연계해 기초과학단지로서의 역할을 수행하고 다양한 협력사업을 통해 시너지 효과를 낼 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.”고 밝혔다. 

한편 수학교육 강화를 위해 설립 예정인 ‘수학문화관’은 2018년부터 계획하였으며 2024년 6월 설립 완료를 목표로 추진하고 있다. 수학문화관은 경북과학고등학교가 이전하고 나면 교사를 리모델링해 건립한다.
