이날 가장 먼저 연설에 나선 박용진 후보는 “앞서 이재명 후보가 박용진 공천 걱정하지 않아도 되는 그런 당 만들겠다는 말을 했는데 저는 제 공천을 걱정하는 것이 아니라 민주당을 걱정하는 것이다.”며 목소리를 높였다.

그는 이재명 후보에 대해 "'가난한 사람들 그리고 못 배운 사람들은 언론의 잘못된 프레임에 빠져 국민의힘을 더 많이 지지한다'는 말로 또 다른 논란만 만들고 있다"며 "이렇게 남 탓 해서는 우리가 무엇을 변해야하는지, 어디서 혁신해야하는지 찾아낼 수 없다."며 강한 비판을 이어갔다.

그는 “집권 여당의 독선과 오만에 강력하게 맞서 싸우겠다.”면서 아울러 “국토균형발전을 확고히 추진해서 대구경북에서 새로운 희망을 만들어내겠다.”는 약속을 전했다.

가장 마지막으로 연설에 나선 강훈식 후보는 이와 같은 대립 가운데 ‘연결의 힘’을 강조했다. 그는 “우리 안의 분열과 갈등은 더욱 더 커지고 있다. 계파와 갈등이 현실이라면 강훈식이 가진 연결의 힘으로 통합을 이뤄내겠다.”며 목소리를 높였다.

아울러 강훈식 후보는 “왜 다른 후보를 공격하지 않는지 묻는 사람들이 많다. 이재명은 이래서 밀어내고 박용진은 저래서 쳐내고, 민주당이 도대체 누구와 함께 정치하겠나?”며 “검찰의 표적이 된 이재명 후보를 외롭지 않게 하겠다. 소신파 박용진 후보를 외롭지 않게 하겠다.”고 말했다.
