그러면서 “그러기 위해서는 진보를 재구성해야 된다.”고 설명하며 “우리가 정통적으로 알고 소위 수도권에서만 경쟁하고 있는 청년세대의 마음을 얻는 것도 필요하겠지만 어르신들을 위한 정당으로 더욱 거듭나야 되는 것들도 향후에 우리 민주당의 과제”라고 덧붙여 말했다.

그는 “이번에 전당대회에서 당 대표에 도전하면서 우리 당도 이제 어르신 세계를 좀 잘 모시는 정당이 돼야 되겠다고 주장하고 동시에 지역 균형 발전을 성공시키겠다고 요청 드리고 있다.”고 강조했다.
