이에 따라 육아휴직 기간은 현행 1년에서 최대 1년 6개월로 확대되고 배우자 출산휴가 기간은 현행 10일에서 20일로 연장된다. 

또한 부부가 모두 육아휴직을 각각 3개월 이상 사용했을 경우와 한부모 근로자 또는 장애아를 자녀로 둔 부모의 경우 육아휴직을 6개월 이내에서 추가로 사용할 수 있도록 확대된다.

조지연 의원은 “저출생 문제 해결에 도움을 줄 수 있는 개정안이 국회를 통과해 매우 뜻 깊게 생각한다”며 “앞으로도 의정활동을 통해 일과 가정의 조화를 이룰 수 있는 정책을 마련하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
