2015년 ‘국립공원 신규 지정 정책 방향 정립 연구’에 의하면 팔공산은 국립공원 지정 타당성 7점 만점에 6.96으로 ‘매우 높은 수준’을 나타낸 바 있다.

팔공산에는 멸종 위기종 18종을 포함에 5천296종의 생물종이 서식하며, 국보 2점, 지정문화재 92점이 존재한다.

아울러 민주당 대구시당은 “홍준표 시장은 지난 롯데몰 체결의 신속한 행정에 이어 대구의 자부심을 높이기 위한 행정을 계속해주길 바란다.”며 거듭 당부를 덧붙였다.
