핵강 교육감은 “공약은 단순한 약속이 아닌 대구교육의 철학과 방향을 담은 사회적 약속”이라며 “남은 1년간도 정책 완성도를 높이고, 현장의 변화를 실질적으로 이끌겠다”고 밝혔다.

IB부터 AI 디지털교과서까지…교실 수업의 혁신

대구교육청은 전국 최초로 IB(국제 바칼로레아) 프로그램을 공교육에 도입해 현재 105개 학교에서 운영 중이며, 전국 12개 시·도교육청으로 확산되는 등 공교육 수업 혁신을 선도하고 있다.

여기에 ‘대구미래학교’, ‘1수업 2교사제’, ‘기초학력 3단계 안전망’ 등은 수업의 질을 높이고 학생 맞춤형 학습을 지원하는 데 중추적 역할을 하고 있다.

AI 디지털교과서의 도입도 큰 반향을 일으키고 있다. 98%에 달하는 높은 채택률에 대해 일부 우려도 있었지만, 현장에서는 긍정적인 반응이 주를 이루고 있다는 것이 교육청 입장이다. 강 교육감은 “수준별 학습과 AI 보조 튜터의 유연한 활용이 교실 수업에 자연스럽게 스며들며 몰입도 높은 수업이 이뤄지고 있다”고 설명했다.

아이 중심 교육과 돌봄 확대…‘모두를 위한 공교육’ 실현

대구교육청은 마음교육, 개별 맞춤형 학습, 체험 중심 교육 등 ‘아이 중심’의 교육 철학을 실천에 옮기고 있다. 특히 전국 최초로 도입한 마음교육은 학생들의 사회정서 역량을 높이는 데 기여했고, 장애학생 통합교육, 무상교육 확대, 진로 맞춤형 프로그램 운영 등은 교육의 형평성을 뒷받침하고 있다.

교권 보호와 학부모 참여 확대에도 힘을 쏟고 있다. 예방 중심의 교권 침해 대응 시스템 구축, 법률·심리적 지원체계 마련, 늘봄학교 확대 운영, 학부모 원스톱 지원센터 구축 등이 그것이다.

최근에는 학부모 수요 증가에 따라 중학교 단위의 ‘학부모 지원센터’ 확장도 추진 중이며, 교동중학교 폐교 부지에는 북부권 교육 인프라 확충 차원에서 ‘유아교육진흥원 본원’ 설립이 진행되고 있다.

AI·디지털 리터러시·유보통합…미래를 향한 선제적 대응

대구교육청은 미래 교육을 위한 기반 구축에도 적극 나서고 있다. AI 인공지능교육센터는 올해 개관 이후 학생들의 체계적 학습 공간으로 자리잡고 있으며, AI 디지털교과서 수업은 특히 학습동기가 낮았던 학생들에게서도 몰입도를 이끌어내며 긍정적인 평가를 받고 있다.

또한 2025년부터는 ‘대구형 서·논·구술형 평가 시스템’이 대구미래학교 등을 중심으로 시범 도입될 예정이며, 교원 연수 및 평가의 공정성 확보를 위한 체계 구축도 병행되고 있다.

유보통합 역시 대구교육청은 선제적으로 대응하고 있다. 달성군 등에 전담 직원을 파견해 유아교육 현황을 면밀히 파악하고 있으며, 어린이집 교사 대상 연수와 장학 지원 등을 통해 현장의 호평을 받고 있다.

“지금의 교육이 10년 뒤 아이들에게 유의미한가”

강 교육감은 “우리가 지금 가르치는 것이 과연 10년 후 사회로 나갈 아이들에게 적절한가를 늘 자문하고 있다”며 “대구교육청은 앞으로도 교육 현장을 면밀히 살피고, AI 시대에 맞는 새로운 교육 전략을 꾸준히 실천해나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

대구교육은 단순한 변화가 아닌, 지속 가능한 혁신으로 다음 세대를 준비하고 있다. AI, 디지털 리터러시, 가족 공동체 교육 등 미래를 향한 이 도전은 앞으로도 계속될 전망이다.
