【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구시교육청이 5일 오후 3시 경북대학교 경하홀에서 ‘국제 바칼로레아(IB) 글로벌 리더 특강’을 열었다. 이날 행사에는 월드스쿨 교원과 교육전문직원 등 130여 명이 참석해 높은 관심을 보였다.
특강 연사로는 미국 로스앤젤레스 국제학교(월드스쿨) 교장 콘라드 휴즈 박사가 초청됐다. 휴즈 박사는 이날 강연을 통해 글로벌 리더십의 비전과 IB 교육의 혁신적인 학습 경험을 참석자들에게 소개했다.
휴즈 박사는 ‘평가의 변화: 인간의 번영을 위한 교육과정 설계’의 저자로, 스위스, 프랑스, 인도, 네덜란드 등 다양한 국가의 학교에서 교장직을 역임한 바 있다. 현재는 유네스코 국제교육국 선임연구원과 영국 더럼대 겸임교수로도 활동하고 있다.
이번 특강은 ‘더 나은 세상을 위한 교육’을 주제로 진행됐다. 휴즈 박사는 학생, 교사, 코디네이터, 시험관, 학부모 등 다양한 역할로 IB 프로그램에 직접 참여한 경험과, 제네바 국제학교 총장 재직 시절의 직업적 경험을 바탕으로 IB 철학에 대해 설명했다. 이날 현장에서는 참석자들과의 활발한 토론도 이어졌다.
강은희 대구시교육감은 “오늘 특강이 IB 철학의 실천적 가치를 지역 교육 현장에 더욱 깊이 뿌리내리는 계기가 되길 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 학생들의 창의성, 비판적 사고, 윤리의식, 사회적 역량이 자랄 수 있도록 적극적으로 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

Dr. Hughes, author of "Transforming Assessment: Designing Curriculum for Human Flourishing," has served as principal in schools in various countries, including Switzerland, France, India, and the Netherlands. He currently serves as a Senior Researcher at the UNESCO International Bureau for Education and as an Adjunct Professor at Durham University in the United Kingdom.
The theme of the lecture was "Education for a Better World." Dr. Hughes explained the IB philosophy based on his direct involvement with the IB program in various roles, including as a student, teacher, coordinator, examiner, and parent, as well as his professional experience as the president of the Geneva International School. A lively discussion ensued with the attendees.
Daegu Metropolitan Superintendent of Education Kang Eun-hee stated, "I hope today's special lecture will serve as an opportunity to further ingrain the practical value of the IB philosophy in local education settings. We will continue to actively support the development of students' creativity, critical thinking, ethical awareness, and social competencies."
