경북경찰청은 1일 오전 대구고용노동청과 함께 코레일 본사와 대구본부, 하청업체 본사 등을 압수수색했다고 밝혔다. 현장에는 수사관과 근로감독관 등 70여 명이 투입돼 서류와 PC, 관계자 휴대전화 등을 확보했다.

경찰은 압수물을 토대로 철도 진입 허가 여부, 작업 계획 수립 과정, 안전조치 이행 여부 등 사고 전반을 살필 방침이다. 또 지난주 참고인으로 불러 조사한 인물 중 일부를 피의자 신분으로 전환한 것으로 전해졌다.

이번 사건과 관련해 경찰은 코레일과 하청업체에 대해 업무상과실치사상 혐의를 적용하고 있으며, 고용노동청은 산업안전보건법과 중대재해처벌법 위반 여부를 따지고 있다. 국토부 항공·철도사고조사위원회도 별도로 원인 조사에 착수했다.

앞서 지난달 19일 청도군 경부선 선로 인근에서 무궁화호 열차가 선로 점검 중이던 코레일 직원 1명과 하청업체 근로자 6명을 치는 사고가 발생했다. 이로 인해 하청업체 근로자 2명이 숨지고 5명이 크게 다쳤다.
