소방당국과 경찰 등에 따르면 9일 오전 10시 55분쯤 대구 수성구 범어동 대구지방법원 뒤 7층짜리 건물에서 화재가 발생해 7명의 사망하고 40여명이 부상을 입은 것으로 알려진다.
해당 빌딩은 다수의 변호사 사무실이 있는 곳으로 소방당국은 "건물 2층에서 검은 연기가 보이고 폭발음도 들렸다"는 신고전화를 받고 현장에 출동해 소방관 160여명, 소방차 64대 등 동원하여 오전 11시 17분쯤 화재를 진압한 것으로 확인된다.
소방당국은 인명 피해가 더 있는지 확인하고 있으며 경찰은 이번 화재가 발생한 건물 2층의 한 변호사 사무실의 의뢰인이 불만을 제기한 정황이 있었다는 점 등으로 미뤄 방화 여부를 조사 중이다.
한편 사건의 용의자 역시 현장에서 사망한것으로 알려지며 7명의 사망자는 경대병원으로 이송되었다.
