국민의당 안철수 대선 후보가 야권 후보 단일화 제안 이후 첫 일정으로 보수의 텃밭인 대구‧경북을 방문한 가운데 야권단일화에 대한 입장을 밝혔다.

지난 13일 여론조사 국민 경선 방식의 야권 후보 단일화를 제안한 안철수 후보가 14일 단일화 제안 이후 보수 지지세가 강한 대구‧경북 지역을 찾아 민심 공략에 나섰다.

안 후보는 14일 오후 4시 국민의당 대구시당 당사에서 열린 기자간담회에서 “제가 처음부터 완주하겠다고 계속 이야기를 해도 단일화 꼬리표가 붙어서 어떤 공약을 이야기해도 기사화 되지 않길래 차라리 선제적으로 제안해서 국민의 판단과 평가에 모든 걸 맡기고 제 길을 굳건하게 가고자 단일화를 제안했다”라는 입장을 밝혔다. 

그러면서 그는 “국민경선 방법은 국민의힘이 계속 써오던 방법이다. 저는 이준석 대표를 뽑은 과정, 저와 서울시장 경선 과정, 윤석열 후보 경선 과정과 동일한 방법을 제안 한 것”이라고 설명했다.

그러나 국민의힘이 후보 간 담판 방식을 통한 단일화를 고집하는 가운데 이날 오전 국민의힘 권영세 선대본부장 역시 "지금은 통 큰 단일화가 필요하다"고 밝힌 것에 대해 안철수 후보는 “윤석열 후보의 입장이 아니면 제가 답할 이유가 없다”면서 “윤 후보의 답변에 따라 판단하겠다.”고 전했다.

한편, 대통령 선거와 함께 치러지는 대구 중‧남구 선거와 관련해서는 “대선과 완전히 별개”라고 선을 그으며 “국회의원은 그 지역을 위해서 일해야 하며 자리를 위해 요행으로 당선되는 것은 옳지 않다”고 말했다.

이어 “정말 자격있고 지역을 위해 열심히 일하고 정치는 봉사라고 생각하는 사람이 되어야 한다.”고 밝히며 “합당의 상황도 아니기 때문에 대선과는 완전히 별개로 치러지는 것”이라고 거듭 강조했다.
