권 시장은 백신 접종에 앞서 “백신을 접종받아 모범을 보이고 백신이 안전하다는 것을 시민에게 보여주겠다”며 “위암 수술을 한 내가 아스트라제네카 백신을 맞는 모습을 시민들께 보여 드리는 것이 백신 접종에 대한 안전성과 접종률을 높이는데 조금이라도 도움 되지 않을까 생각했다”는 기대를 밝혔다.

그러나 백신 접종이 불발되면서 그는 “아스트라제네카 백신을 접종하는 것이 과연 특혜일까? 그렇다면 당연히 맞지 않는 것이 옳은 일이다. 그런데 지금은 아스트라제네카 백신의 안전성에 대한 국민의 우려와 불신을 해소하는 것이 더 중요하지 않을까?”라며 아쉬움을 전했다.

이에 대해 윤태호 중앙사고수습본부 방역총괄반장은 “자치단체장은 방역을 책임을 지고 있는 분들이다보니 우선 접종의 필요성이 제기된 거 같다”며 “백신 공급량과 접종으로 인한 효과 등을 총괄적으로 고려해 우선 순위 대상을 선정할 것”이라고 입장을 밝혔다.
