11일 대구시의회 제312회 임시회 2차 본회의에서 이성오 의원이 대구경북 행정통합에 대한 대구시의 입장과 계획을 묻는 시정 질문에 나섰다.

지난 8월 말 대구시가 제안한 합의안에 경북도가 회신하지 않자 공식논의를 중단하고 장기과제로 넘기겠다고 선언했던 홍준표 대구시장은 이날 “행정안전부의 중재안이 나왔다”며 “아직 살펴보지 못했는데 세부적으로 검토한 후 다음 주쯤 대구시의회에 보고하겠다”고 말해 눈길을 끌었다.

그는 이 의원이 “행안부가 경북이 주장하는 대로 중재안을 줄 경우 어떻게 대처할 계획인지”를 묻는 질문에도 “협상 전략에 관해 지금은 말씀 드리기 어렵다”고 말했다.

그러나 최근 언론보도를 통해 발표된 설문조사 결과에 대해서는 명확한 입장을 밝혔다. 홍 시장은 대구경북 시도민의 45.1%가 통합에 반대하는 것으로 나타난 결과에 대해 “설문조사를 수행한 기관도 문제인데다가 질문도 반대를 유도하는 질문으로 구성됐다”고 꼬집었다.

그러면서도 통합 관련 주민 투표 실시 여부에 대해 “주민 투표를 하면 막대한 예산이 들어 대구경북 모두 실익이 없기 때문에 통합 관련 여론조사를 해 볼 생각은 있지만 주민 투표는 하지 않을 것”이라고 선을 그었다.
