이날 행사에는 대전환정치대혁연대(준), 광주전남정치개혁연대, 초당적청년정치인모임정치개혁2050, 더불어민주당 강원도당·경북도당·대구시당·경남도당·부산시당·울산시당과 초당적의원모임(이탄희, 김영배, 박주민, 김두관) 등 200여명이 선거제도 개혁을 위해 참석했다.

이들은 선 기자회견문을 통해 “지역주의에 기댄 양당정치, 승자독식의 선거제도, 선택지가 둘 뿐인 선거제도는 정치혐오를 낳고 국민들의 신뢰를 잃게 만든다.”고 지적하며 “경상도에서 민주당이, 전라도에서 국민의힘이 표를 얻은 만큼 당선되고 소수정당도 득표한 만큼 의석을 보장 받아야 한다.”고 주장했다.

이어 “소선거구제하에서는 유권자의 투표 절반 가까이가 ‘사표’될 수밖에 없고 비례성과 다양성을 보장받을 수 없다”며 국회에서 선거법개정 법정시한인 내년 4월 10일까지 선거제도 개혁을 완료할 것을 주장했다.

또한 윤석열 대통령과 국민의힘을 향해 “윤석열 대통령도 지난 대선 당시 소선거구제의 문제점에 공감한다는 입장을 밝힌 만큼 선거제도 개혁에 적극 나서라.”며 “선거제도 개혁은 진보, 보수의 문제가 아님만큼 합리적인 정치를 위해 반드시 이번에 대통령도 결단해야 한다.”고 강조했다.

임미애 전국정당위원장 겸 경북도당 위원장은 "도대체 언제까지 경북의 민주당 지지들에게 죄송하다고 이야기해야 하겠느냐"고 꼬집으며 "네가 찍으면 살아있는 표고, 내가 찍으면 죽어 있는 표가 되는 현 선거제도를 바꿔야 한다."고 말했다.
